Golden Key National Honor Society : ウィキペディア英語版 | Golden Key International Honour Society
The Golden Key International Honour Society (formerly Golden Key National Honor Society) is an Atlanta, Georgia-based non-profit organization〔(IRS Search for Charities ).〕 founded in 1977 to recognise academic achievement among college and university students in all disciplines. Golden Key has over 400 chapters at colleges and universities in eight countries: Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, The Bahamas and the United States. Golden Key is the world's largest collegiate honor society. Membership into Golden Key is offered to undergraduate and graduate students recognized to be among the top 15% of their class by GPA. ==History== Golden Key was founded by a group of undergraduate students and faculty members at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 29, 1977. In 2001, the society modified its name to Golden Key International Honour Society to reflect its diversity and global presence. According to statements by leaders within the society, the spelling of "Honour" was chosen to observe the more globally accepted spelling. However, the use of the British English spelling is likely a result of a misled belief that British society is somehow higher or more intellectual than American society. There is no evidence that "honour" is a more global form of "honor," the spelling generally accepted in the country of origin of the Society.
